Welcome to SportyDogGuide’s Best Dog Barrier for 2017 Subaru Outback review!

You love your dog even more than you love driving your Subaru Outback, so it’s important to protect you and your dog when you’re in the car together. If your dog is anything like mine, he or she wants to be as close to you in the car as possible. Many dogs love to be in the lap of their owner, but this can be disastrous when driving. To avoid accidents from distracted driving – and for your dog’s safety – it’s best to have a barrier in the car that separates you and your dog.

If you drive a 2017 Subaru Outback and want to keep your dog safely behind you, the Travall Guard TDG1476 is the best dog barrier I’ve found.

This Subaru Outback dog barrier not only fits 2017 Outbacks but also 2014, 2015 and 2016 models.

Premium material

The Travall Guard TDG1476 is a dark gray barrier designed specifically to fit recent model (2014-current) Subaru Outbacks. The frame and mesh gate are both manufactured with durable nylon powder-coated steel. The guard gate has an arched center that meets the roof line, while the sloping sides fully protect the headrests. Once installed, the barrier fits snugly into place. It doesn’t rattle or move even if you have a large dog in the back making contact with it. All edges are smooth and round, so there’s no worry about your dog getting nicked or cut. And the unit is protected with a tough, non-toxic coating. If your dog tries to chew the bar, you don’t have to worry about him or her ingesting dangerous chemicals.

Installation

The TDG1476 is – for the most part – easy to install, though the included instructions could be improved. There is no text or any verbal explanation about how to install the barrier. The instructions rely wholly on a set of pictures, which can be frustrating to work with for some.

This video better demonstrates how to assemble and install any Travall dog barrier. The same procedures apply for the TDG1476 designed for the 2017 Outback.

Travall says installation time is 15 minutes; I’d say give yourself 30 minutes to install the barrier and you should be fine. There are no technical skills required, just a bit of patience.

The guard is held in place primarily in two ways. A double-footed post brace attaches to each side of the guard. Once the braces are secured to the guard, they rest on the window sill. The braces have rubber “bumpers’ on the ends of each foot to keep your sills scratch free. Two tightening hooks connect a pair of rods first to the bottom of the guard and then to the Outback’s tie-down clips, located on the sides just behind the back seats. By loosening the hooks from the guard, you can remove the rods and then loosen the side braces to remove the guard if desired.

Peace of mind

With the barrier firmly in place, you’ll no longer have to deal with your dog jumping up front on you or your passengers. Everyone can enjoy a stress-free and safer ride. The TDG1476 also offers good visibility for you and your dog. There’s plenty of space between the mesh so you can see what’s going on behind you, and your dog can see what’s going on up front. Plus, the car seats will be better protected from scratching, drooling and shedding hair. The fit is perfect, and the dark gray color complements most Outback interiors.

Bottom line

The Travall Guard TDG1476 is the best dog barrier for 2017 Subaru Outbacks – and its current siblings. It’s a thoughtfully designed product that will give you years of reliable service. The barrier makes it easy for you to take your dog(s) anywhere – whether it’s to the park for playtime or to the vet for a check-up. And Travall’s customer service is excellent, should you have any problems with your purchase. It’s not the cheapest barrier you can find for an Outback, but it will save you about $70 compared to the OEM model. And unlike the OEM barrier, you don’t have to bolt the Travall Guard to your vehicle.

Keep your dog safe and secure with the best Subaru Outback pet barrier on the market.
