Durable Dog Frisbee – Why Hyperflite Jawz Dog Disc Is Best

Many of us might start out playing frisbee with our dogs just using a regular human frisbee.

You know, that old Wham-O that’s been sitting in the garage for years?

But if you discover that your dog has the aptitude to be a disc dog, it’s worth investing in a disc built specifically for dogs.

Canine discs are generally softer and more flexible than conventional throwing discs to prevent injury to your dog’s teeth and gums.

Dog discs are also designed to stand up to chewing and being flipped and tossed around.

While there’s no such thing as an “indestructible” dog frisbee, let’s look at what is arguably the most durable dog frisbee on the market today.

Hyperflite Jawz Dog Disc

The Hyperflite Jawz Dog Disc is my top pick for a durable dog frisbee.

Here’s why.

Durable

For starters, the Hyperflite Jawz Dog Disc is durable. That’s important if you’ll be using it on a daily – or near daily – basis.

Hyperflite makes several different dog discs, and the Jawz is at the top of the company’s disc durability rating.  The Jawz disc is puncture resistant and can stand up to your dog’s teeth.

Easy To Throw – Easy To Catch

The Jawz Disc features a dual grip that makes it easy for you to throw and also easier for your dog to catch. The soft, plastic material is also easier on your dog’s teeth and gums.

Here’s a short video of my dog Winston catching a couple throws of his Hyperflite Jawz Disc, as his buddy Rory watches.

Competition-grade

The Jawz is a competition-approved disc designed by two former Canine Disc World champions. If you’ve struggled trying to throw cheap frisbees, you’ll be amazed at how well this one flies.

What Color Dog Disc Should You Buy?

Hyperflite Jawz Dog Disc in Blueberry

The Hyperflite Jawz Dog Disc is available in five colors: black, blueberry, glow, lemon-lime, and mango.

But does the color of the disc really matter to your dog?

Yes!

While humans often buy dog toys based on the colors we like, those same colors might not be the best choices for your dog.

First of all, dogs are not color blind.

They can see colors, but they don’t see as many colors as humans. Nor they do see colors the same way.

That’s because dogs don’t have as many cones in their retinas as we do. Cones are the photoreceptor cells that allow us to see color.

Humans have three types of cones, while dogs have two types of cones.

Since dogs have just two of cones, their color world is

This limits a dog’s visual color world to blues, yellows and shades of gray.

According to Psychology Today,  “Instead of seeing the rainbow as violet, blue, blue-green, green, yellow, orange and red, dogs would see it as dark blue, light blue, gray, light yellow, darker yellow (sort of brown), and very dark gray.

“In other words, dogs see the colors of the world as basically yellow, blue and gray. They see the colors green, yellow and orange as yellowish, and they see violet and blue as blue. Blue-green is seen as a gray.”

Therefore, of the five available Jawz Disc colors, I would choose either the blueberry, glow or lemon-lime.

FAQ

Does The Jawz Dog Disc Float?

No.

The Jawz Dog Disc does not float.

AT ALL.

So don’t use this disc near water unless you’re prepared to watch it sink. There are several customers who tell this story.

If you’re looking for a dog disc that floats, I recommend a Flippy Flopper. These 9-inch discs come in multi-packs at very competitive prices and customers love them.

Not A Chew Toy

Although the Jawz Dog Disc is built to withstand punctures and the rigors of everyday use, it is not a chew toy. Be sure to keep the disc away from your dog when you’re not playing together.

Conclusion

If you need a dog disc that can stand up to hard use, one that flies straight and looks cool, Hyperflite’s Jawz Dog Disc is a great choice. Whether you have a German Shepherd, Border Collie or Black Lab, this durable dog disc will make frisbee time a great time for you and your best friend.
